Sometimes it's the cotton-mouth. Whatever the reason, you're awake, and while you can feel the hangover circling overhead it has not yet descended. You've got plenty of time to make some toast, pop a couple of paracetamol, and spend upwards of thirty minutes in the shower, guzzling that grotty water as if it were the sweet essence of life itself. You emerge from the bathroom in a billowing cloud of victory and steam, ready to take on anything the day can throw at you, while everyone around you suffers and seethes.
